Personal Gear Guru – Frederick

This question was sent to me via our free Personal Gear Guru service by Frederick, asking about hanging a strobe power pack from a light stand using a clamp.

Q: FREDERICK

I need a heavy duty clamp to hold my power packs to a light stand?
I would like to keep them off the floor.
I’m using Profoto Acute 2400R packs.

I would recommend using either the Convi Clamps or the Super Viser Clamps with a Hex “J” Hook to support your Profoto Acute 2400R Packs.

The Convi Clamp with Adjustable Handle is a strong lightweight clamp that will hold up to 44 lbs (20 kg) and you can place it anywhere you’d like on your light stand.

As an alternative to the Convi Clamps, you can also use our super strong Super Viser Clamps with a load capacity of 66lbs (30 kg). The advantage to these is that they open wider than the Convi’s (how much wider depends upon which model) and have a built-in baby stud. They are bigger and more expensive than the Convi Clamps, but do give you a bit more flexibility.

The Hex “J” Hook is a all steel hook that won’t bend under the weight of the pack. As you can see it’s holding a Profoto 7a 2400 pack that weighs in at 27lbs without breaking a sweat!

As you can see the Convi Clamps or Super Viser Clamps can be used with a whole variety of accessories. I hope I’ve answered your question. If I can help you with anything else, please let me know!

Thanks!
